Visit Hollywood and LA in 3 days

City Breaks

When you think of Hollywood, you think of famous people, movie stars, singers, etc

As a child, when watching all the famous people on TV, filming or performing from Hollywood.. for me was something amazing!

A few good years later, I arrived to this destination myself πŸ™‚ In all fairness, I never knew I will come here but oh well, life and its ways ey?

Landed at LAX airport and as expected.. weather hit me – 40 degrees (Celsius that is!)

I have prebooked airport transfers to the hotel, just from outside the airport. The distance from airport to hotel was aprox 25 mins drive. That is with taking into consideration the traffic.

Arrived at the hotel – Andaz West Hollywood

Loved this hotel the minute I got in at the reception. Very funky with music in the background, clean and welcoming.

More details about the hotel you can find out here

Check in process was smooth then headed towards the room. Very spacious room but a bit of lack of design.Β  Not complaining as it was very clean.

As the room was on the last floor, I had a view towards the main street. This also offers a partial view of Hollywood and LA.

The hotel is located in West Hollywood and on a hill. Hence why the view is even better πŸ™‚

Distance wise – 20 mins driving distance from Walk of Fame and Hollywood sign.

As you already know, I love to explore by foot. Said and done! Left the hotel towards Walk of Fame and Hollywood sign.

Took me in total there and back about 7 hours haha!

Let’s start with the Hollywood Sign, situated on Mount Lee.Β  The sign was originally created in 1923 as an advertisement.

It actually used to be called Hollywoodland, believe it or not!

When observed at a comparable altitude, the letters appear nearly level. The sign appears frequently in differentΒ shots for films and TV programs set.

Nowadays is Hollywood. Did you know each letter represents a name? Check it out! (I had no idea whatsoever!)

There is no entry to see the sign. Don’t think you need to buy tickets or anything like that. It’s just there out in the open πŸ™‚

Shall we head towards The Walk of Fame? Walkable distance from the sign is aprox 25 mins.

The main boulevard, before you start exploring

What to expect from Walk of Fame? Not a lot really. Only stars of famous people imprinted on the sidewalks.

When you look at each one of them, you think that person was there. I’m not a Backstreet Boys fan by the way.

It’s just the picture nice to post πŸ™‚

Don’t expect this to be a luxurious place because it is not. You do see poverty, beggars and even gangsters.

However there are plenty of shops, tourists and nice venues where to eat.

After Hollywood, got an Uber (yeah this can be used in the US without a problem) and off I went towards LA.

Distance wise – 20 mins away drive. With traffic being reasonable that is.

I wasn’t expecting much from LA to be honest and I was right πŸ™‚ Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice city however it gave me the vibe of more of a business place.

You can also find nice places around to eat and malls to shop, however there is not a lot to do in the actual city, activity wise.

Unless you go for a city tour which can take you up to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, best parks around aaaaaand Universal Studios.

Personally I only went to the City Hall, right up to the Observation Deck. I know, I know.. I blame the short time!

However well worth it. And for free! πŸ˜‰

I can say the view is quite impressive, miles better in real life. And it will help if you are not afraid of heights πŸ˜‰

As the time was quite short during the visit, I have only touched base on the main locations in the area.

Might be a next time when I will explore it properly. Especially Universal Studios! πŸ˜€

Oh and just an FYI.. if you go during the summer, make sure you have sunglasses, water and comfy clothes. It’s da**n hot!

Speak to you soon, fellow travellers! πŸ™‚
